What is Transformer? How many types of transformer are used in mobile phone ?
|What is Transformer|
There are minimum two coils in a transformer. One coil is called primary coil and the other coil is called secondary coil. They are used for joining ie coupling two sections. SMD transformer works at low distortion level but its working speed is very high. SMD transformer is used in receiving and transmitting section of mobile phones. Transformers made of ferrite core are used in mobile phones. Ferrite is a synthetic ceramic material that is ferromagnetic. It produces a very high quality of flux density. This is the reason why it can be used for high frequencies with minimum loss. Transformers made of ferrite core are very sensitive and scope of loss is minimum.
Principle of Transformer-
A magnetic field is generated around the coil when current flows through a coil. When the AC supply is delivered to a coil, the intensity of the magnetic field varies from minimum to maximum as AC positive and negative are alternately formed in half a cycle. If another coil is placed within the magnetic field of the first coil, voltage is generated in the second coil too. The component made on this principle is called the transformer. Two coils are placed near each other where one coils is neutralized by the by the magnetic flux of the other coil. Mostly both the coils are encircled one blow the other. The conductor wires used n the coils are insulated with fine insulating material to prevent short circuit.
Transformer can be briefly described below :-
Shown with the Character :-
Types of Transformer:-
Step Down Transformer
When the voltage of the output of the secondary winding is lower than the input given in the first winding, it is called step down transformer.
Step Up Transformer
When the voltage of the output of the secondary winding is higher than the input given in the first winding, it is called step down transformer. The value of step up voltage depends on the no. of encircles on first and second windings.
Checking of Transformer:-
Resistance should be displayed when primary and secondary coils are checked separately, If only 1 is displayed, it means that the coil being checked is open. If beep or reading is received in one wire each of primary and secondary coil, it means the transformer being checked is short.
